Welcome to Obsessive Compulsive Design.

This page is the entrance to the wond'rous world of Obsessive Compulsive Design, a one-man band games design outfit based in the deep south-east of England.

OCD’s primary goal is to create, maintain and spread the use of the obSESSION™ Cross-Genre Roleplaying System, a toolkit system providing versatile and customisable rules for role-playing in any genre, era, or possible imagined setting.

obSESSION RPG System

July 9th, 2012 - New Website (again ) and Legacy News.

With the creation of this new look website the news arrangement has switched to posting by default on obSESSION’s Facebook page, for duplication in the widget to the right. This box will contain the old archived News items from the prior site and occasionally I will post some items here as well as, or instead of, on Facebook.

June 29th, 2012 - obSESSION Core Rulebook goes to V1.0

The final releaser version of the Core Rulebook is finally out. Barring unforeseen errata these rules are now finalised and will not be seeing any further changes. Work can now begin in earnest on the Appendices and the Simple Fantasy core.

February 23rd, 2012 - New year, new products.

Today we launched our new One-Shot Dungeons range of generic RPG maps. The first map and a free sample map are now available from DriveThru, or the freebie can be downloaded from this site.

December 10th, 2011 - Busy, busy, busy.

In addition to the Core Set, Simple Fantasy and Hunters we have added a supplement called 'Fear & Loathing in obSESSION' to the current project list. This will expand the Emotional Response rules and provide more options for GMs planning Horror games.

A major revision of Chapter One of SimFant has also been decided, moving much of the content of the price lists to the free SF:Treasures supplement in order to avoid cluttering up the core book. Treasures will also include a few items which are slated for release in Fantasy professions 1 & 2 so it's going to be a major Spoiler release as well as a useful booklet in it's own right.

December 3rd, 2011 - Email Change.

To bring it in line with the other OCD addresses the old "obsession@fogonline.com" email which has served for so long has been retired. Queries and suggestions should now be addressed to questions at obsessiongame.co.uk or suggestions at obsessiongame.co.uk.

November 28th, 2011 - FREE Game!

OCD are pleased to announce the release of the FREE Snow Business card game. This simple game allows you experience all the thrills and spills of a snowball fight without getting cold or wet, or even going outside. The game can be downloaded here or from DriveThruRPG.

October 2nd, 2011 - Simple Fantasy Playtesting...

...results in the tragic early death of an "innocent" Lesser Drake.

Having established that clever play can result in neophyte PCs taking out such a potent enemy, I engaged in some adjustments to the combat rules. Not so much as to change the results of the battle though. Flying lizards of the world, beware.

September 21st, 2011 - Work still progresses.

Apologies to anyone waiting for more obSESSION releases. Thanks to Gavin's ADD the design process is following it's usual pattern of working of twelve things at once and gradually creeping them all towards completion.

The best best way to defeat that seems to be to bully him on behalf of the specific project you want to see completed so if there's something you're waiting for then get on the forums and shout for it.

July 1th, 2011 - First Update to the obSESSION Beta Edition.

The Core Rulebook has been updated to v0.2 and the Extras Bookklet to v1.2 today. For details of the changes made in these updates, please check the forums.

May 28th, 2011 - So far, so good.

After poking at it with a stick for a couple of days, I am quite happy with the print copy of the obSESSION Core Rulebook Beta Edition that I ordered from Lulu.

At the moment there are no plans to make the POD version available to the general public before the final version is determined but if there is a demand for it then I will, of course, reconsider.

May 1st, 2011 - obSESSION Beta Available from DriveThru RPG.

At long last I have bitten the bullet and put my baby into the hands of an ungrateful public.

Seriously, the Beta Release of the game (see here for more details) is finally available online. It IS a commercial release, but is discounted from the price that the Core Set will eventually command and will be updated regularly as development continues.

A series of support products are already planned, including generic scenarios playable with just the Core Rulebook. Watch this space for more information.

January 31st, 2011 - oC and NoC logos uploaded to the site.

Having recovered enough from the holiday season to get some work done, I've finalised and posted the logos used to indicate partial or 100% obSESSION compatability for a product. Check them out here.

November 1st, 2010 - Welcome aboard the new look OCD Site.

As obSESSION moves into the "final" playtesting phase I felt it was about time that this rather tired old site got a facelift too, so here we are.

June 9th, 2010 - Beta Release "Imminent”

After a long wait and a couple of re-writes a Beta Playtest release of the obSESSION Core Rulebook and the Simple Fantasy RPG expansion should be available soon. Email for details and to get involved in testing the game.

May 11th, 2007 - OCD Website Goes Live.

After much delay the OCD website has some content and has been reposted to the web. In addition to a description of the obSESSION system, the site features a briefing on the game's core mechanics.

February 1st, 2006 - OCD Formed

Obsessive Compulsive Design, or OCD, has been formed by Gavin Steele after the demise of Chablis Roleplaying Productions. CRP's other partner, Linda Evans is pursuing projects of her own but the two remain friends and colleagues, and their new companies will remain affiliated as elements of the Front For Organised Gaming. FOG was formerly a branch of CRP but has now been "redefined" as a separate, non-commercial, entity supported by both Gavin and Linda and will continue to provide their community site in addition to hosting websites for the two affiliated companies.
